HR compliance update: COVID-19, PFML and more

Whether your organization’s employees are working in your place of business, from home or some combination thereof, business owners and HR professionals are required to comply with state and federal regulations. For many, in fact, the COVID-19 pandemic has made HR compliance more complicated than ever. So while the pandemic has precluded hosting our annual HR and benefits compliance seminar, Sylvia Group is offering the always-popular update as a webinar, through Zoom video on September 22.

Here’s what we’ll cover:

  • COVID-19 legislation and regulations
  • Insurance rebates
  • Enforcement of employer mandates
  • Recent court cases shaping the benefits landscape
  • Wellness regulations
  • The MA Paid Family and Medical Leave (PFML) Law.

With students returning to school, daycare options limited and the possibility of a fall surge in COVID-19 cases looming, PFML may be a particular concern. Our featured presenter, Stacy H. Barrow, is a partner in the Boston-based specialty law firm Marathas Barrow Weatherhead Lent LLP, known for its expertise on PFML and on employee benefits compliance in general.

Nationally recognized for his expertise on the Affordable Care Act, Stacy has extensive technical knowledge and experience designing and implementing health and welfare plans that meet the and complex requirements of applicable federal and state law. When the National Association of Health Underwriters (NAHU) launched its Compliance Corner series on COVID-19 this year, one of the first experts they turned to as a presenter was Stacy.

If you’ve attended past Sylvia Group presentations on HR and benefits compliance, you know the value of the information and guidance our annual updates provide. If this will be the first Sylvia Group compliance update you attend, it won’t be the last.  A survey of last year’s attendees produced uniformly excellent reviews, with one participant summarizing, “A thorough and basic overview, explained clearly. I needed the basics, and this was a cogent and comprehensive review of them.”

In addition to providing a providing an update and overview, we’ll conclude by answering questions submitted during the presentation.
